Can oil proof paper be put into the oven?

Greaseproof paper (high viscosity beaten paper) is not recommended to be baked in the oven (160-220 ℃ baking) as it is not oven baked paper.
It is originally oil resistant, but does not have a silicone oil release layer. Its temperature resistance limit is generally only 110-130 ℃. Under normal baking temperatures, it is prone to yellowing, brittleness, carbonization, smoking, and has no anti sticking effect. Dough/cookies will stick to paper.

In the market, merchants commonly refer to silicone oil paper as oil proof paper, which is the most easily confused term in foreign trade! What can enter the oven is Parchment paper made of silicone oil paper/baked parchment paper, not native Greaseproof oil proof paper.

Distinguish between two types of oil proof paper

1. Greaseproof paper made of native fiber oil resistant paper

-Principle: Oil prevention is achieved by deep hydration of fibers to block holes, without silicone oil coating
-Temperature resistance: ≤ 130 ℃, exceeding it is prone to burning and brittleness
-Usage: Hamburgers, fried chicken, butter, candy, room temperature oil packaging, not used for baking
-Features: Non stick, easily damaged at high temperatures

2. Silicone oil coated paper (commonly known as "oil resistant baking paper" by merchants, English Parchment paper)

-The substrate is mostly Gracin, with double-sided food grade silicone oil coating
-Temperature resistance: 220-230 ℃, suitable for ovens and air fryers
-Comes with anti oil and anti adhesive properties, it is the true baking tray cushioning paper

Special circumstances (very few modified oil proof papers)

A few manufacturers produce high-temperature resistant modified oil proof paper, labeled with a temperature resistance of 180 ℃+and food contact, which can barely be used for short-term low-temperature baking;
However, oil proof paper does not have silicone oil and is still not sticky. Customers baking cookies and cakes may stick to the bottom, so it is not recommended to sell it as baking tray paper to consumers.
