In the production of double foil, the rolling of aluminum foil is divided into three processes: rough rolling, intermediate rolling, and precision rolling. From a process perspective, it can be roughly divided based on the thickness of the rolled exit. The general classification is that the exit thickness is greater than or equal to 0.05mm for rough rolling, 0.013-0.05 for intermediate rolling, and less than 0.013mm for single sheet and double rolled products for precision rolling. The rolling characteristics of rough rolling are similar to those of aluminum sheet and strip. The control of thickness mainly relies on rolling force and post tension. The processing rate of rough rolling is very small, and its rolling characteristics are completely different from those of aluminum sheet and strip. It has the special characteristics of aluminum foil rolling, and its main features are as follows:
(1) Aluminum sheet rolling. The thinning of aluminum plates mainly relies on rolling force, so the automatic thickness control method is based on a constant roll gap as the AGC main control method. Even if the rolling force changes, adjusting the roll gap at any time to maintain a certain value can still obtain plates and strips with consistent thickness. When aluminum foil is rolled to medium and precision rolling, due to the extremely thin thickness of the aluminum foil, increasing the rolling force during rolling makes it easier for the rolling mill to produce elastic deformation than for the rolled material to produce plastic deformation. The elastic flattening of the rolling mill cannot be ignored. The flattening of the rolling mill determines that the rolling force in aluminum foil rolling can no longer play the same role as that of rolling plates. Aluminum foil rolling is generally a seamless rolling under constant pressure conditions, and adjusting the thickness of the aluminum foil mainly relies on adjusting the tension and rolling speed after adjustment.
(2) Stacking and rolling. For extremely thin aluminum foil with a thickness less than 0.012mm (the thickness size is related to the diameter of the work roll), it is very difficult to roll it individually due to the elastic flattening of the roll. Therefore, the double rolling method is adopted, which involves adding lubricating oil between two aluminum foils and then rolling them together (also known as stack rolling). Stacking rolling can not only produce ultra-thin aluminum foil that cannot be produced by single rolling, but also reduce the number of strip breaks and improve labor productivity. By using this process, single-sided smooth aluminum foil with a thickness of 0.006mm to 0.03mm can be mass-produced.
(3) Speed effect. The phenomenon in which the thickness of aluminum foil decreases with the increase of rolling rate during the rolling process is called velocity effect.
