Can food packaging paper go into microwave?
Not all food packaging paper is microwave-safe. It depends on the material and coating. Ordinary greaseproof paper and plain kraft paper are NOT recommended for microwave use. Specially made food-grade baking parchment without fluorine or plastic coating is okay for short-time microwave heating. Paper with PE lamination, plastic film or metallic ink printing must NOT be used in microwaves.
✅ Microwave safe: Food-grade baking parchment (silicone coated, no plastic lamination, no metallic ink) Suitable for short-time heating and food defrosting. Not recommended for prolonged high-heat heating with heavy grease.
❌ Not recommended / Forbidden in microwave
Regular greaseproof paper: fluorine-based grease barrier may migrate under high temperature.
Plain kraft / greaseproof kraft paper: easy to scorch or catch fire when heated.
PE laminated paper: plastic layer melts under microwave heat and releases harmful substances.
Any paper printed with gold or silver metallic ink: metal causes sparking and damages the microwave.
